Spirit

I wanted to comment yesterday on Aldersgate, but I was still recovering my sanity after Synod. Anyway, the amazing thing about
John Wesley's experience in the church in Aldersgate Street, on the 24th May 1738, was that his life changed 180 degrees. Although he was a Christian before this day, he often referred to this date as his 'real' conversion. He ministered in the power of Spirit after this encounter, and his life changed the lives of millions of people.

There are a few similarities with John's experience and those of the disciples at Pentecost. They were also Christ-followers before Pentecost, but it seems as though the 'transformational' power of the Holy Spirit radically changed their ministry and lives.

May we not just be Christ-followers (in name), but may we be Christians filled with the life-changing power of the Spirit.

St Augustine - “O Holy Spirit, descend plentifully into my heart. Enlighten the dark corners of this neglected dwelling and scatter there Thy cheerful beams.”
