Re-imagining Church - part 2

Last month I wrote an article for Scripture Union magazine on Re-imagining Church. As I began to explore this huge topic I realised that I have undertaken a task that was larger than I initially thought. Thankfully, SU was gracious enough to let me explore the subject in a second part, which was released yesterday. If you would like to read the article please simply click this link.

I do believe it's a worthwhile read and I would love some of your comments on what I have wrestled with in writing. Thanks and God bless.

Stanley Hauerwas says it best when he writes,

“God’s truth is credible to the world only when it sees a community shaped by the truth … if the Gospel is to be heard, it must also be seen.”

The Land Between

How to Survive Your Spiritual Desert - Trending Christian Blog

For those of you who have tuned in to our recent sermons you would already know that we tackled the theme of "The Land Between". This took a closer look at the theme of finding God during our times of tough transitions and was based on a delightful book by Jeff Manion. I have writtten a short article on this topic for Scripture Union, which is a lovely summary of this theme. If you would like to read it please click on this link -  and while you are there, please also read some of the other awesome articles that are on the Scripture Union site.

Here is a short snippet from the article to whet your appetite:

"Our unique journey through the wilderness of uncertainty during Covid-19 has moved many of us into deep places of reflection, trying to find God in this time of drastic change. We may even be asking “What is God doing in our lives through this time of transition?” As we step out onto the soil of this ‘land between’ we recognise that this time has the potential to grow things in our lives or to sadly destroy us. We are left with the work of discerning which ‘crop’ we want to grow from the soil of this season."

God bless

How rescuing an injured bird taught me valuable lessons

A few weeks ago we rescued an injured bird and this little 'gift' taught me so much about God's love and being 'adopted' into the family of Grace. I am sure you have your own family stories that you will be able to relate to our experience.

You will have to read the full article on this site if you want to find out more.

Take care and God bless

15 - Value of Lent

I know that we are moving into the tail end of LENT, but I wanted to share with you an article I wrote on the Value of Lent. This was written a few weeks ago for the Scripture Union online magazine. If you are interested in reading about why I find LENT a valuable time then please click onto this link and enjoy the read. It is a short article, so please give it a try :)

For those who can't follow the link, here is the thought from Psalm 15 for you:

"God, who gets invited
    to dinner at your place?
How do we get on your guest list?

“Walk straight, act right, tell the truth.
3-4 “Don’t hurt your friend,
    don’t blame your neighbour;
        despise the despicable.
“Keep your word even when it costs you,
make an honest living, never take a bribe.
“You’ll never get blacklisted
if you live like this.” (Eugene Peterson from the Message)

Paper Tigers - Dealing with Change

As many of you know we made the huge move from our home in Pietermaritzburg to Fish Hoek in December 2017. Change is never easy, but we are thankful that God has helped us through this period of intense transition.

If you are interested in reading a little about our experience of the Change and my thoughts on 'Dealing with Change', then please click onto this link here - this is an article I wrote for Scripture Union last month. Enjoy.

Thanks again for taking the time to read my thoughts and remember to live in Grace,

Scripture Union Magazine - Free online Mag

Scripture Union has produced a wonderful online magazine that is not only full of great content, but also FREE! If you have a moment please can you click onto this link and then read the magazine. If you like it, then you can subscribe to it (remember it is FREE) and you will receive it via email once a month - simple!

I was fortunate to be asked by my friend, Xavier Moran (from Scripture Union) to contribute an article for the first Magazine. You will find it there - it is on helping our kids deal with disappointment. There is even an article on the new kids craze - Fidget Spinners - you can read about that too!

2 Timothy 3:16 -  "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness..."

Thanks for the input and regular comments friends.
May God bless you
