I am Simeon

The account of Simeon's response to the birth of Jesus is very profound. Here was a man who had waited his whole life for the arrival of the Messiah and when this tiny baby boy (Jesus) arrived at the temple in his mother's arms, Simeon knew that this was the Messiah. Luke 2 says that:

Simeon was there. He took the child in his arms and praised God, saying,
29 “Sovereign Lord, now let your servant die in peace,
    as you have promised.
30 I have seen your salvation,
31     which you have prepared for all people.
32 He is a light to reveal God to the nations,
and he is the glory of your people Israel!”

What is also very meaningful for me, is that the name Simeon can mean: Obedient, Listener and "God-Receiver."  What a wonderful word for us as we embark upon another New Year. Let us be "God-receivers" - Let us be like Simeon - ready to receive Christ in our hearts.
