Turning a blind eye - Lent #19

William Wilberforce once remarked, "You may choose to look the other way but you can never say again that you did not know.” We live in a society that has become good at 'turning a blind eye' to certain things. Most of the time it is because people just don't want to get involved or feel inadequate to help others in tough circumstances. The thing is that Jesus never turned a blind eye to anyone or anything. It was not part of his nature.

Many years before Jesus even stepped onto the face of the earth, Solomon wrote something that had to do with the eyes and the heart...

"People may be right in their own eyes,
but the Lord examines their heart.
The Lord is more pleased when we do what is right and just
than when we offer him sacrifices.

Haughty eyes, a proud heart,
and evil actions are all sin.

Good planning and hard work lead to prosperity,
but hasty shortcuts lead to poverty.

Wealth created by a lying tongue is a vanishing mist and a deadly trap." - Proverbs 21:2-6

"I try to live my life every day in the present, and try not to turn a blind eye to injustice and need."
Susan Sarandon

Let's take up the challenge not to turn a blind eye to things that are immoral, unjust and evil.
