Intoxicated is not a word you would expect to see in your daily blog post is it? I mean, the first thing you think about when you see the word 'Intoxicated', is of someone who is drunk. Well, it is exactly this sentiment that the great Reformer, John Calvin, wrote about when he said:
"People are undoubtedly more in danger from PROSPERITY than from ADVERSITY. For when matters go smoothly, they flatter themselves and are INTOXICATED by their success." - John Calvin
So, what he is saying is that we can often let success 'Go to our heads' so quickly, that we end up thinking that it was all down to us. It is best to remain humble and to shift the glory to Jesus. Being Intoxicated ends up causing embarrassment for many people, so let us remember to remain level headed.
Matthew 10:22-23 (MSG) - But don’t quit. Don’t cave in. It is all well worth it in the end. It is not success you are after in such times but survival. Be survivors! Before you’ve run out of options, the Son of Man will have arrived.
