This is the time of the year when gardeners start to prune their flowers. We have also done a little pruning in our garden of late - the vegetables, the vines, the lavender - and there will be more to come. It is almost a little depressing to cut off "chunks" from these plants, but we do it for a good reason. Nature has taught us that if we want good growth in the Spring then we need to prune in the Winter. We cut off the dead branches so that new life will shoot in next season.
The same applies to our Spiritual lives - we also need to do a little pruning at times. We need to allow the Spirit of God to reveal those things in our lives that need to die and then be cut off. What areas of our lives need some 'divine pruning?'
John 15:2 - He cuts off every branch of mine that
doesn’t produce fruit, and he prunes the branches that do bear fruit so
they will produce even more.
Ralph Waldo Emerson -“As the gardener, by severe pruning,
forces the sap of the tree into one or two vigorous limbs, so should you
stop off your miscellaneous activity and concentrate your force on one
or a few points”
