Starting fires or Putting them out!

Over the course of 3 days during this last week we meet as a Church Synod. A lot of the time the discussions were helpful and insightful, but there are moments where one needs to put out some fires. The Church is filled with broken people and the Methodist Church is no different. So one of the functions of this gathering is to cast vision, encourage, inspire and equip God's people, BUT a portion of time needs to be spent in putting out fires. It is an unfortunate reality of being part of a broken world.

The thing is, I don't like putting out fires. It drains me and makes me feel tired and disillusioned. I think our role as Christ followers should rather be 'lighting fires' (not real fires, just in case you were getting worried.) We shoul
d be lighting fires of HOPE, peace and healing. We should be rekindling the embers of broken hearts and shattered dreams. We should be reminding people that with Jesus in our midst there is a FUTURE.

2 Chronicles 7:3
When all the Israelites saw the fire coming down and the glory of the Lord above the temple, they knelt on the pavement with their faces to the ground, and they worshiped and gave thanks to the Lord, saying, “He is good; his love endures forever.”

"The most powerful weapon on earth is the human soul on fire." - Ferdinand Foch

"In everyone's life, at some time, our inner fire goes out. It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being. We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit." -
Albert Schweitzer
