Restored by grace - Advent reflection

In a powerful way Isaiah reminds the Israelites that God can help them and also that God can renew their broken lives. He says to the people:

"They will rebuild the ancient ruins
    and restore the places long devastated;
they will renew the ruined cities
    that have been devastated for generations."
- Isaiah 61:4

Just as someone can lovingly restore a piece of forgotten furniture, so God can graciously restore our weathered lives. We may look worn and dirty, but as God gets to work on us, so we are slowly restored to our original beauty.

As you enter another busy week, I invite you to ask God to restore/renew/restore your spirit. May the joy of Christ fill your hearts today.

Christmas is a wonderful reminder that God doesn't throw us away, like bits of old garbage, but that God takes time to nurture us and to restore us.
