As individuals we respond to things in contrasting ways. Some of us need guidance, accountability and direction. Others of us, like to be free agents, making our own choices, without the need of a support structure. Personally I think that both options, when taken to the extreme, can be harmful.
For me, I need the freedom to be 'ME', but I also need the input, care and guidance from others.

Ecclesiastes 4:10 - If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up!
