All forms of Grace

In these slower paced days between Christmas and New Year, we get to contemplate many things. These would include:

• The gift of God's grace
• Family and friends
• Health and wellness
• Purpose and priority

As we spend the time contemplating these things I want to add something into the mix. John Blanchard offers us these wise words concerning how God meets our deepest needs. He writes:

"For daily need there is daily grace;

for sudden need, sudden grace,

and for overwhelming need, overwhelming grace."

John 1:16 - Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given.

Work & holidays

Holidays are great. They allow us chance to meet up with family and friends and to catch up on some much needed rest. After all, who doesn't want to be on holiday? However, we also need to balance our lives and that's where the necessary 'work' comes into play. Work can be exciting or a drag - either way, it shapes our lives.

Here are some interesting thoughts on work:

It's Raining again!

We took 3 days to go on a family camping trip and guess what ... It rained and rained! Yes, for most of our time away it rained so much that we thought we were going to need a boat (or Ark) to get home. It seems our 'holiday curse' has come back again - never go away when we are on leave - because it WILL rain!

Besides the rain, it was a great time away, just doing nothing and enjoying quality family time. Creating memories is important and we feel that we were able to do that. We won't forget these 3 days for a long time. I guess a cold and rainy holiday is as close to a 'white winter' Christmas as we will get this year:)

If you are travelling somewhere this festive season please travel safely. You should have perfect weather now, because we won't be going anyway for a while:)

Rain, Rain go away...

There is a lot of talk at the moment about banning ‘things’ or various people. Here are a few of these:

We must ban smokers from almost everywhere…
We will probably have to ban Caster Semenya from competing in ‘female’ athletics events…
We must definitely ban Julius Malema from opening his mouth…
We will have to ban the Protea’s from trying to play cricket…

I think you understand what I mean - there is lots of ‘banning’ going on at the moment. I would like to add one more item to this list. Here it is:

There should be a ban on ‘Rain’ during holidays, especially when you are camping with small kids.

What do you think? I think it is fair, don’t you? Having just had a week dodging rain drops I am tired of rain. So, Lord if you are listening, please can you ‘ban’ rain from our next holiday.

P.S. On a more serious note, our week of rain is nothing in comparison with what the people in Samoa and Sumatra have to deal with right now. Let’s spare a thought for them and lift them up in our prayers.
