Wise words from Catherine Booth

"Cast off all bonds of prejudice and custom, and let the love of Christ, which is in you, have free course to run out in all conceivable schemes and methods of labour for the souls of men."
- Catherine Booth

There is so much wisdom to think about in this one single sentence.
a. I am challenged to 'cast off' my prejudice...
b. To let the love of Christ run through my veins ...
c. To allow God' spirit to overflow into all areas of my life ...
d. To see every moment as a chance to reflect God's love to others ...
e. So that all people would have a chance to encounter the love of Jesus.

What comes to your mind as you read these words from Catherine Booth?

What is remarkable about Catherine is that these were never just words she spoken as a "nice quote", but she lived them out for the sake of Jesus.

You are worth something

There are many people in our world who feel useless and as if no one loves them. You may even be feeling that as you read this blog post today. For this reason, I love these words, which we should read as if our LOVING GOD is speaking them directly to us.

“You must know that you are worth much to me whether you accomplish anything or not. Even if you are rejected in the world's eyes, you are valuable to me.”- Stormie Omartian

The Psalms also speak of something similar - Psalm 119

"You made me; you created me.
Now give me the sense to follow your commands.
74 May all who fear you find in me a cause for joy,
for I have put my hope in your word.
75 I know, O Lord, that your regulations are fair;
you disciplined me because I needed it.
76 Now let your unfailing love comfort me,
just as you promised me, your servant."

Live today knowing that you are incredible in God's eyes.

The practice of love

Immaculee Ilibagiza – “Prayer is the practice of love. It can change the world. It sounds so simple, but it is true. Hold on to hope and find peace in your heart. Put your trust in God.”

Prayer is more than just some words we speak - it is an invitation for God to act and a chance for us to practice love.

"The man answered, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind.’ And, ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’” - Luke 10:27

Michelle Obama on Courage

To celebrate Women's month I want to share a few lovely quotes from incredible women who have inspired others. The name of Michelle Obama is well known and I just love her take on life and courage.

“You may not always have a comfortable life and you will not always be able to solve all of the world’s problems at once but don’t ever underestimate the importance you can have because history has shown us that courage can be contagious and hope can take on a life of its own.” - Michelle Obama

Is it not true that COURAGE is courageous?
How can you be courageous today?

Romans 5:4 - "...endurance brings God's approval, and his approval creates hope"

Optimism

“Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement.” - Helen Keller

Before we even begin something we need to believe that we can achieve it. Of course, there will be moments of doubt involved, but that is when we need to rely on the power of God to work in our lives. I am convinced that God works in and through us - all God needs is our OPTIMISM and FAITH that something can change and bring blessing. This is the first step towards any miracle.

Mark 5:34 - Jesus said to her, “My daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace, and be healed of your trouble.”

Rewards

Hebrews 11:6 – “God rewards those who sincerely seek him.”

Does this Scripture mean that "when we seek God's face,  God will reward our efforts and answer our prayers?" OR does it mean that "our sincere prayers are always answered by God, not matter what the answers are?" I am sometimes left wrestling with what this means. What do you think?

Or maybe it has to do with the first part of the verse that speaks about how we need 'faith' to please God - that our simple asking in faith is all that God requires of us. Just as a child believes their parents will answer their requests, so we need to trust in God's ability to answer our prayers.  Any thoughts?

Naive?

Maybe it is a little naive in today's day and age, but there is something in this Rudyard Kipling quote that makes sense to me.

"I always prefer to believe the best of everybody, it saves so much trouble." - Rudyard Kipling

How often have we believed a slice of "news" (that hasn't been true) and it has made us judge someone without knowing all the facts? This kind of thing can ruin relationships and even churches. It takes a "bigger" person to rather believe the best in someone until it can be proved otherwise.

Proverbs 16:28 - A troublemaker plants seeds of strife; gossip separates the best of friends.
