Enjoy the view

I love this quote. I think it is brilliant.

"There cannot be a crisis next week. My schedule is already full." - Henry A. Kissinger

In truth, the crisis moments we face help us to put everything in sharp perspective - even our diaries suddenly don't seem as full as we make them out to be.

Our crisis times are like climbing up a mountain, but with God there is always a gift in the midst of the trouble.

"It's easier to go down a hill than up it, but the view is much better at the top." - Henry Ward Beecher

People or things

Before Randy Pausch died he gave his 'Last Lecture', which has been put into a book. It is amazing how the very real knowledge of life and death helped him to put words to his thoughts. Here is one of his profound statements:
“People are more important than things.” ― Randy Pausch, The Last Lecture
Simple, but so true!
What is more important to you at the moment?
Jesus is most important...

Powerful stuff

Ascension day is deeply significant for us as believers. It reminds us that Christ's work on earth was complete (in the physical form), but that it was just about to begin through His Holy Spirit. It also reminds us that Jesus is actively interceding for us in heaven...

·         Romans 8: 34 - “Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.”

"Christ's ascension is a sign for us of the miracle of his transformation. He is the kernel and heart of all power in heaven and on earth." - Karl Barth

May God be gracious to you today and always.

Ascension Day

Don't forget that on Thursday (17th) it is Ascension Day. If you had forgotten that it was this special day, why don't you read up more about it in Acts 1.

See, the Conqueror mounts in triumph,
See the King in royal state,
Riding on the clouds His chariot
To His heavenly palace-gate;
Hark, the choirs of angel voices
Joyful halleluiahs sing,
And the portals high are lifted,
To receive their heavenly King.

Supplies

There are many things that we want from life. However, a lot of these things we don't actually NEED. We may want them for a variety of reasons, but they may not be the best for us. God promises to supply us with the things we need in life...

"And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus." - Philippians 4:19

Make a list of the needs you have today and start asking God to meet these needs.

I will declare

One of the things I love about the Psalmists is that they spoke so honestly about their emotions, yet they always weaved some Hope into their words. I have been blessed to re-read Psalm 89 today. Here are some of the opening words:

"I will sing of the Lord's great love for ever, with my mouth I will make your faithfulness known through all generations. I will declare that your love stands firm forever, that you established your faithfulness in heaven itself." - Psalm 89:1-2

Let's declare that God's love stands FIRM forever!

Long Sleeved Pants

I realise that in my last few posts I have been a little 'down' - we are all just struggling to come to terms with loads of grief that has recently impacted our community. I would appreciate your prayers in this difficult time. Thanks.

Anyway, just to lighten the tone, I must tell you about Josh's comment the other day. As I was getting him dressed, he was telling me that he doesn't need to wear "long sleeved pants" to school because it was far too hot for that. I had to chuckle to myself and I didn't bother correcting him as he was totally convinced about his short/long sleeved pants:)

May your week be awesome and may the weather be so good that you can wear your "short sleeved pants" all day long. (For those of you who are English, remember that the "pants" I am speaking about are "trousers" and not underpants:)

Kids are a true gift - they make us laugh and cry at the most unusual times.

Be blessed today.
