Blessed is ....

At the bottom of my diary this week, I saw the following quote:

"Blessed is the person, who sees the need,
recognizes the responsibility.
and actively becomes the answer." - Willam Arthur Ward

These are wise words indeed, but are surpassed by the words of Jesus, who said:

7 "Blessed are the merciful,
    for they will be shown mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart,
    for they will see God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers,
    for they will be called children of God." - Matthew 5:7-9

Thought: Can we be the answer to someone's need?

What is the answer?

How often have you scratched your head wondering what the answer, to a troubling scenario, could be? As hard as you try, you just can't seem to come up with a suitable and satisfying answer? Is it possible, that as Christians, we are missing a valuable point? Listen to what C.S. Lewis writes:

“I know now, Lord, why you utter no answer. You are yourself the answer. Before your face questions die away. What other answer would suffice?”

Perhaps, the reason why we are not getting the answer we desperately seek, is because God wants us to know that he is the answer...period!

1 Chronicles 22:19 - Now devote your heart and soul to seeking the Lord your God.

Hard questions

Author and speak, Dr. Larry Crabb writes as if Jesus is speaking to each one of us:

“Face the hard questions that life requires you to ask. Gather with other travellers on the narrow road, pilgrims who acknowledge their confusion and feel their fears. Then, together, live those questions in My Presence.”

This is what it means to be in a church. To gather with fellow believers; to share our joys and sorrows; to help each other find Jesus in the midst of the brokenness. Remember that Jesus is never afraid of our hard questions. In fact, he joins us on the road, for the very purpose of listening to our deepest longings.

"Now that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem. They were talking with each other about everything that had happened. As they talked and discussed these things with each other, Jesus himself came up and walked along with them; but they were kept from recognizing him.

He asked them, “What are you discussing together as you walk along?” - Luke 24:13-17

I don't understand it all

As a Minister I am asked a lot of questions. Some of them I can answer, but there are many that I truly don't have a neat answer for. There is a freedom in being able to admit that I am unsure on some matters and I know that most people appreciate this honesty.

However, there are a few things in our faith experience, that we may not be able to express in clear words, but that we just KNOW deep in our stomach's. One of these for me, is the knowledge that God is our constant companion. In the words of the ancient hymn, Dora Greenwell writes:

"I am not skilled to understand
What God has willed, what God has planned;
I only know at his right hand
Stands one who is my Saviour."

Perhaps we could just rest in what we KNOW of Jesus today, instead of trying to figure out all the complexities of life? Just a thought! 

Mark 4:24 - Then he added, “Pay close attention to what you hear. The closer you listen, the more understanding you will be given—and you will receive even more.
