Learning Perseverance

Do you ever get the impression that God is wanting to teach you something?

Or that you are experiencing much of the same kind of thing, and you wonder what lesson you need to take from these moments?

Well, I have been having one of those weeks and sense that the lesson I need to learn is perseverance. I admit that I am not enjoying learning the lesson so much, but I do trust that I will soon understand why it is a value lesson to learn (or re-learn).

Can you relate in anyway? What are having to learn at the moment?

"May the Lord direct your hearts into God’s love and Christ’s perseverance." - 2 Thessalonians 3:5

You may encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated. In fact, it may be necessary to encounter the defeats, so you can know who you are, what you can rise from, how you can still come out of it." - Maya Angelou

"For great things do not just happen by impulse, but are a succession of small things linked together." - Vincent Van Gogh

Losing heart

Image result for don't lose heart quotes
If you ever feel as if you are losing heart then follows these wonderful words of advice from Paul:

"Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart." - Hebrews 12:3

He tells us to think about Jesus (consider him) and all that he went through. When we do this we remind ourselves that Christ is for us and that he will be with us.

Jesus is our overcomer!

"Don't lose heart if it's very difficult at times, everything will come out all right..." - Vincent van Gogh

Do the small things well

"Great opportunities to help others seldom come, but small ones surround us daily." - Sally Koch

We all want to be noticed, or to be the hero who saves the day. Sadly, we won't all get to experience the victory parade or the fan-fare of the movie star. However, we will ALL get a daily opportunity to do something significant for someone else. It may not change the planet, but it could impact the life of someone in need.

So, send the email, type the sms, make the call, visit the friend, say 'sorry' or do whatever you feel will make a difference.

1 Kings 17:13 - Elijah said to her, “Don’t be afraid. Go home and do as you have said. But first make a small loaf of bread for me from what you have and bring it to me, and then make something for yourself and your son.

"Be faithful in small things because it is in them that your strength lies." - Mother Teresa

"Great things are done by a series of small things brought together." -Vincent Van Gogh

Don't delay when you feel nudged to do something for someone else.

The power of a Bread Tag

We always seem to be drawn to the powerful, the mighty, the Celebrity - we forget the transformational effect of the small things in our world. Take for example the humble bread tag. A few years ago Mary Honeybun, a pensioner, decided to start collecting these lightweight tags, with the purpose of selling the 'high density polystyrene' for cash. This money was then used to buy wheelchairs for disable folk. It sounds like a ridiculous plan at first, but it has worked. You can see the proof of her work on this website.

I am proud to mentioned that people from our community managed to collect 300 kilograms of bread tags recently and they have gone to help in this cause. We should never underestimate the power to make a difference. We may feel tiny and insignificant, but God can use all things and people for his glory.

Luke 16:10 - “One who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much, and one who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much.
