Better moments

Dear Lord Jesus,
In my better moments I want nothing more than to be like you.
But there are other moments ...
Help me to see how good conformity to your way really is.
In my seeking for you may I be found by you.
I love you, Lord.
Amen." - Richard Foster

I enjoy Foster's take on having 'Better moments' and 'other moments' in our faith. I guess the essence of true Christianity is faithfully walking with Jesus in between the high and low moments of our lives. Holding God's hand in the ordinary things of life.

Defining moment

"And the Lord commanded the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land" - Jonah 2:10

I see this moment as the most defining in Jonah's life. I know that there are a few other moments which could be as influential as this one, but I think this is his watershed. God grants him a second chance and after allowing Jonah time to reflect on his mistakes, God sends him out again.

Can you remember a defining moment in your life? A moment, which changed the course of your life or impact upon your future?

John 18:27 - "Again Peter denied it, and at that moment a rooster began to crow." (Peter's defining moment)

Defining moments - confronting the sharks in your life

We will all face them at some stage in our lives - they are called DEFINING moments. They are moments where we walk so close to the mystery of death that it is almost as if we can look into the LIFE beyond. They are moments that bring our earthly lives into sharp reality and where we do soul searching like we have never done before.

Australian Surfer Mick Fanning had one of those moments over the weekend, where he was attacked by 2 huge sharks while surfing at Jeffery's Bay - and he lived to tell the tale. In case, you missed the whole incident, the photo on today's blog is taken from that incident. I am not a prophet, but I am convinced that Mick will LIVE his life differently this week. I am sure that he will appreciate his family and friends a whole lot more. I am sure he will enjoy his health (and legs) more than he did last week. This is what DEFINING moments do for us - they change us.

2 Peter 1:2 - "I write this to you whose experience with God is as life-changing as ours, all due to our God’s straight dealing and the intervention of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ. Grace and peace to you many times over as you deepen in your experience with God and Jesus, our Master." (MSG)

Reflection:
What has been a defining moment for you?
We don't have to wait for a 'near death' incident to appreciate all that we have. Take a moment to thank God for all the blessings in your life.

Defining Moments

We will all face crucial moments in our lives that will end up defining our lives. Some of these can include moments of celebration (marriages, births etc), while moments of tragedy and difficulty can also change us.

What defining moments have you experienced in your life? I encourage you to make a list now and have a look at these events.

How is this for a defining moment in history?

Matthew 27:51 - At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook and the rocks split.
