Trinity Sunday

On this Sunday, which we mark as Trinity Sunday in the Christian tradition, we remember the mystery of the Triune God. We use all kinds of simple illustrations to try and understand the complexity of God; however, the words of Paul help us get a clearer picture of the Trinity. In his final greeting to the church in Corinth, he says:

"May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all." - 2 Corinthians 13:14

If you are struggling to understand the relationship of the Trinity, start with these 3 points:

1. God our Father is LOVE
2. Jesus, the son, reveals God's GRACE to us all
3. The Spirit sustains us, guides us and fills us with the presence of God

P.S. My apologies for having been a little scarce lately, but I have been away for the week attending our Annual Church Synod. There has not been any time to write - I plan to make up for it this next week :) 

Exam time!

 

By this stage of the year most families with school-going kids are fully into the 'stress' of exams. A lot of us are just hanging onto the last thread of our sanity, but we are looking forward to the end of November.

Anyway, it got me thinking about how we ALL should 'examine' ourselves from time to time - not in a school sense, but rather in a spiritual sense. Take Paul's advice below and see what I mean:

Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you—unless, of course, you fail the test" - 2 Corinthians 13:5 

What does this mean for us today?
Are we "in the faith?"

We have to be intentional

“Spiritual growth is not an accident. It is intentional. You must intend to grow. You must make a choice to grow. You are as close to Jesus Christ as you choose to be. If you are not growing spiritually don’t blame your wife or husband or kids or parents or pastor. You are as close to God as you choose to be.” - Stephen Sheane 

I think this quote is wonderful, as it reminds me that if I want to grow in my faith, I really need to be intentional about it. Just like striving for any other goal, I must put my mind to it and keep focus. Spiritual grow takes time, discipline and commitment.

2 Corinthians 13:11 - Be joyful. Grow to maturity. Encourage each other. Live in harmony and peace. Then the God of love and peace will be with you.
