Two oars of the boat

Can you imagine rowing a boat with only one oar? It wouldn't be very helpful, would it?

If you only use the right oar, you go in circles.
If you only use the left oar, you would get the same result.

The best and most effective way to move is to make sure that both oars are working simultaneously. Right and Left oars, moving as one.

Is it also not true when we seek to follow God's commands? Jesus gave us two vital commands to obey - Love God and Love our Neighbour.

Love for God is one of the oars.
Love for our neighbour is the other.

"Jesus replied, “The most important commandment is this: ‘Listen, O Israel! The Lord our God is the one and only Lord. 30 And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.’31 The second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’ No other commandment is greater than these.” - Mark 12
