Somewhere in our distant past we have been taught that 'running away is a coward's choice.' And there is some truth in this, I guess, but today's scripture offers us a different view.
"But you, man of
God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith,
love, endurance and gentleness." - 1 Timothy 6:11
Paul tells Timothy in this passage to “flee these things.” You will need to read the preceding verses to see what he is referring to, but in summary, he is urging Timothy to run away from temptations that will disrupt his faith - they are like a dangerous
enemy.
And we have another great example in Genesis 39, where we see how Joseph ran away from the claws of Potiphar's wife. His decision actually
saved his life in the end.
However, there is one more thing that we need to chew on. Paul is not only urging Timothy to run away from temptation, but he is telling him to run towards something better. He says to him, PURSUE (run TOWARDS) righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness.
Thought: Sometimes we are called to be wise and run away with purpose. To run towards the things of God, and to leave behind the temptations of this world.
