Stranger to myself

"Most of us remain strangers to ourselves, hiding who we are, and ask other strangers, hiding who they are, to love us. - Leo Buscaglia

When Jesus called us to love our neighbours as we love ourselves, he assumed we actually love ourselves to some degree. This is the interesting part, because many of us still struggle to love ourselves as we should, and this may stem from the fact that we are still 'strangers to ourselves.'

Thought: Do we truly know ourselves?

Which part of our inner lives do we not love?

Duplicity

Duplicity

"The integrity of the upright guides them, but the unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity." - Proverbs 11:3

I believe that one our greatest struggles is be our true selves around other people. There are too many occasions where we live in duplicity - we have one personality (mask) for work, or church, or certain people and then we have another personality when we are with family or even by ourselves.

We need to remember that God knows us at our worst and yet He still invites us to be part of his Kingdom. We can't fool the Lord - he knows all our pretenses and all the masks that we wear. Coming to Christ with all our honest struggles and brokenness is the only way to approach the throne of God's grace.

"We are only falsehood, duplicity, contradiction; we both conceal and disguise ourselves from ourselves." - Blaise Pascal

“The easiest thing to be in the world is you. The most difficult thing to be is what other people want you to be. Don't let them put you in that position.” - Leo Buscaglia
