L’ amour de Dieu est folie

The French Easter Liturgy says: “L’ amour de Dieu est folie” – which simply means 'the Love of God is foolishness (folly).' 

And in some ways, it really is. 

God's love for us is mysterious, amazing, ridiculous, confusing, and life changing. As we slowly move closer towards the season of Advent, let us remember that God's love is truly remarkable. 

God loves us, despite how we treat each other and even how we treat God. It is foolish in some ways - why would you keep loving someone, who doesn't love you in return? I don't have words that adequately describe this gift, but I am deeply thankful.

“For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. 17 God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him." - John 3:16-17

Facing the bear

"Better to meet a bear robbed of her cubs than a fool bent on folly." - Proverbs 17:12

Somehow I had missed this beautiful proverb. It is so true, especially if you consider the consequences of fools who are hell-bent on doing their own wicked things. I think that we would agree, that there are plenty of examples (of fools) around our world at the moment. 

By the way, a bear who has been robbed of her cubs is not a pleasant sight at all. The mother bear's rage would be so violent and aggressive that none of us would want to cross her path. 

So, these wise words teach us that the destruction of a fool is far worse than a heart-broken mother bear.

Luke 6:45 - A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.

Making a decision

John Maxwell once said: "Life is a matter of choices - and every choice you make makes you."

What do you do when you are invited to 2 parties on the same day? Tough call to decide which is going to be the best to attend? In the case of Solomon the Hosts are key in his decision-making process. When he understands what the Host has in store for him, that is what defines his choice.

Wisdom invites him a feast, but so does 'Folly.' They both make their parties sound amazing, but in the end, Solomon knows that one of them is going to be very bad for him - it is actually lead him to experience hell on earth, while Wisdom's celebration will bring him LIFE. 

The foolish woman is loud;
    she is ignorant and knows nothing.
14 She sits at the door of her house,
    on a seat at the high places of the town,
15 calling to those who pass by,
    who are going straight on their way,
16 “You who are simple, turn in here!”
    And to those without sense she says,
17 “Stolen water is sweet,
    and bread eaten in secret is pleasant.”
18 But they do not know that the dead are there,
    that her guests are in the depths of Sheol." - Proverbs 9:13-18

Making tough choices can be a stressful exercise, but thankfully God gives us lots of direction.

"But until a person can say deeply and honestly, "I am what I am today because of the choices I made yesterday," that person cannot say, "I choose otherwise.” - Stephen R. Covey
