Christ the King

The last Sunday before Advent is usually marked as Christ the King Sunday. It is a significant occasion for believers as it draws our attention back to the Sovereignty of Jesus. In a time when leaders scramble for power and worldly leadership is often self-centered, we would do well to honour Christ as our King and Saviour.

1 Timothy 1:17 - “To the King of ages, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.”

Revelation 19:6 - “On his robe and on his thigh, he has a name inscribed King of kings and Lord of lords.”

Elizabeth Joy-Lawrence wrote: "We need Christ the King Sunday because we need to remember that our ultimate hope is not in any human being, but in Christ.”

Thought: How could Christ the King Sunday change the way we live our daily lives?

Why even bother?

Image result for why bother"

Ever caught yourself thinking, "Why should I even bother?"
"Why should I bother trying to nice to other people?"
"Why should I bother trying to follow Jesus when it is so hard at times?"
"Why should I bother?!"

Paul has a great answer for us. He says to Timothy - "That is why we labour and strive, because we have put our hope in the LIVING GOD, who is the Saviour of all people, and especially of those who believe." (1 Timothy 4:10)

Perhaps Paul's words are worth a second look. What is it about his challenge that you find helpful today?

Don't Quit

"Most people who quit don't give up at the bottom of the mountain; they stop halfway up it." - John Maxwell

Don't quit now! You are already halfway up the mountain - just think of the view you will have from the top. All the sweat, pain and sacrifice will be worth it.

So, if you are reading this post today, thinking about giving up, then I urge you to reconsider. If God has called you to this task (this mountain), then please keep climbing. Christ will be your guide.

1 Timothy 6:11 - But you, Timothy, are a man of God; so run from all these evil things. Pursue righteousness and a godly life, along with faith, love, perseverance, and gentleness.

The essence of the Easter story

There are many different accounts that speak of the Crucifixion of Jesus, but the passage that sums up the message of the Good News is this one:

"This is good, and pleases God our Saviour, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all people." - 1 Timothy 2:3-6

May you have a blessed Good Friday.
May the knowledge of Christ's sacrifice fill your heart with joy and gratitude.
