Forgive the quick notice, but please support the Wesley Fair/Fete on Saturday the 15th October, from 8am. There is going to be plenty to do and eat, so bring the family along and get some great goodies and treats. For those who are not in Pietermaritzburg, please feel free to pass onto any friends or relatives in the area. It is going to be a wonderful community event. Thanks and be blessed.

Afraid?
“I believe
that it is not dying that people are afraid of. It is Something else. Something more
unsettling and more tragic than dying frightens us. We are afraid of never
having lived. Of coming to the end of our days with the sense that we were
never really alive. That we never figured out what life was for.” – Harold Kushner
Don't be afraid to live today.
Let us not come to the end of our days and wish we had lived more?
Romans 8:11 - "And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you."

What are you Guarding?
Joshua 23:11 - “Now, vigilantly guard your souls: Love God, your God."
We have alarms to help guard our homes and
our many possessions; we have Car-guards to help protect our cars at church or at the
shopping centres. We have armed guards at airports and banks to protect us from dangerous criminals.
But, at the end of the day, this shows us what we value the most. Because what we don’t have is “soul-guards!” or people motivated to GUARD what
is inside our hearts. Yet it is our hearts that can determine the whole course of our lives.
Proverbs 4:23 - Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.
Luke 11:28 - Jesus commented, “Even more
blessed are those who hear God’s Word and guard it with their lives!”

Terra Incognita
The phrase "Terra Incognita" means "unknown territory."
Although we may have everything planned out for today, we are still heading into unknown territory. For me, it is only God who can know and control the future, but I keep forgetting that and believing that I am the master of my own destiny.
Perhaps as you are reading this you are heading into some other form of 'unknown territory'. It may be in your career, family situation, relationships, church setting or whatever - if this is you, then I remind you to lean upon God at this time. Even though the way may be unclear for you, God will always be your companion if you invite Him to draw alongside you.
Deuteronomy 19:7-8 - 8 “And if the Lord your God enlarges your territory, as he swore to your ancestors, and gives you all the land he promised them, 9 you must designate three additional cities of refuge. (He will give you this land if you are careful to obey all the commands I have given you—if you always love the Lord your God and walk in his ways.)

In Honour of October
October is an interesting name to give the 10th month of the year, especially seeing that October comes from the word "Octo" meaning eight! The reason for this is quite simple really. In the old Roman calender it was the 8th month, but when the new Julian and Gregorian calendar was introduced it retained its name, even though it became the 10th month.
So, in honour of "October" I offer you the wonderful Psalm 8. These words are fitting to honour the Lord any month of the year.
O Lord, our Lord, your majestic name fills the earth!
Your glory is higher than the heavens.
2 You have taught children and infants
to tell of your strength,
silencing your enemies
and all who oppose you.

3 When I look at the night sky and see the work of your fingers—
the moon and the stars you set in place—
4 what are mere mortals that you should think about them,
human beings that you should care for them?
5 Yet you made them only a little lower than God
and crowned them with glory and honour.
6 You gave them charge of everything you made,
putting all things under their authority—
7 the flocks and the herds
and all the wild animals,
8 the birds in the sky, the fish in the sea,
and everything that swims the ocean currents.

Look to the Lighthouse
“Anxiously you ask, 'Is there a way
to safety?
Can someone guide me? Is there an escape from
threatened destruction?'
The answer is a resounding yes! I counsel
you: Look to the lighthouse of the Lord,
There is no fog so dense,
No night so dark,
No gale so strong,
No mariner so lost,
But what its beacon light can rescue.
It calls, “this way to safety; this
way to home.” – Thomas Monson
Psalm 27 - The Lord is my light and my Salvation...
If you are feeling a little lost today, then I urge you to stop and look to the 'Lighthouse of the Lord.' It is always God's desire to show us the way home.

Head and Shoulders
"God holds me head and shoulders
above all who try to pull me down.
I’m headed for his place to offer anthems
that will raise the roof!
Already I’m singing God-songs;
I’m making music to God." - Psalm 27 (Message)
There are many people who try to pull us down and to drag us into their mess, but God desires to hold us 'head and shoulders' above these people. I don't see this as an act to keep us away from those in need, but rather to protect us from people who want to harm us.
May you enjoy the view from the shoulders of the Lord.
