How should one pray?

Abba Macarius was once asked this simple question:
"How should we pray?" (this was the same question that Jesus was asked by his disciples).
In his wisdom, the old monk replied:
"There is no need at all to make long discourses; it is enough to stretch out ones hands and say,
Lord, as you will, and as you know, have mercy."
And if the conflict grows fiercer, say,
'Lord, help!'
God knows very well what we need and shows us mercy."

I think this is such a lovely exchange between these people. I love the fact that our prayers don't have to be learned or filled with fancy language. They can be as simple as this:

Lord, as you will.
And as you know, have mercy.

Love this Delme! So often we try and "persuade" God with our clever words. God knows our hearts better than even we do...
